Maternity Services Score Highly

Maternity Banner

The Maternity services provided at Leighton Hospital have been rated highly by the women who use them, according to a recent national survey.

The service, which is provided by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), was rated as better than most other Trusts for the labour and birth elements of the pregnancy journey, scoring a total of 9.1 out of 10 – just 0.3 points off the highest score nationally.

The survey, commissioned by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), asked women who had recently given birth to rate their experience in a number of key areas including antenatal care, the labour and birthing process, and postnatal care, allowing mothers to give their feedback on the entire pregnancy and birth.

Pam Cornwall, Head of Midwifery at MCHFT, said: “We are very pleased with these figures, as they are a real insight into what our patients think about our services. All of the results show that we are rated better or the same as other Trusts in the country, meaning that we are providing great care to our patients.

“As a Trust, we welcome feedback from all of our patients, and they can do so in a number of different ways. In October, the national Friends and Family Test was expanded to cover Maternity Services, and I would highly recommend anybody who receives care from our Unit to use this at the different stages of pregnancy to let us know what they think. This will enable us to continue to improve our services based on the need and experience of our patients.

“We have made significant investments in our maternity services over the past two years, with a full refurbishment of our Labour Ward, the introduction of a dedicated Midwifery-led Unit and changes to our Antenatal Clinic. We are also currently in the process of improving our Postnatal Ward and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, meaning that we can offer an even higher quality of care throughout the pregnancy journey for our local community and beyond.”

Comment from Sue Capper, Midwife at Leighton Hospital and Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Representative

All staff working in the Maternity Services provided by Crewe’s Leighton Hospital are extremely proud to have scored 9.1 out of 10 in the poll commissioned by the Care Quality Commission.

The new Maternity Unit which was completed just over 12 months ago provides excellent facilities for mums-to-be and their families.  However, it is the experienced and dedicated staff who work in the Maternity Service at Leighton that have been instrumental in achieving this success.

Mums-to-be can be assured of high quality care from Midwives who want to make each pregnancy and birth the best experience for a woman and her family.

Every woman has the right to excellent local maternity services so please feel free to get in touch with your Maternity Unit and let us be a partner with you in your journey into parenthood.
