The Outpatients Department caters for a wide variety of specialities. These include medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, urology, rheumatology, dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat, and psychogeriatrics. The dermatologist holds both a consultation clinic for a variety of conditions and a minor surgery treatment clinic.
Minor Injuries Unit
The Minor Injuries Unit is a Nurse-led unit, which sees and treats approx 16,000 patients per year. Between 9am and 10pm a Nurse Practitioner is available. One of their extended roles is to be able to order and interpret x-rays. The department is open daily from 9am and 10pm including weekends.
A Physiotherapy service is provided to Outpatients in the Rehabilitation Unit. Facilities in the Unit include a gymnasium, electrotherapy room and large hydrotherapy pool heated to 36c. Referrals are accepted from GPs, Consultants and Allied Health Professions.
Occupational Therapy offers assessment and treatment for people with a range of illnesses, injuries and disabilities. Specific operation is used for the purpose of enabling individuals to reach their maximum level of function and independence in life. Activities relate to the indiviudals needs and environment.
The Medical Imaging department at VIN are able to offer most general x-ray examinations that do not need the introduction of any contrast agent in the body. The exception being teeth, which may have to be x-rayed at Leighton Hospital. Currently there are two imaging methods available, these are x-ray films and ultrasound scanning. All imaging requests must be made either through a General Practitioner, Consultant Team or the Minor Injuries Unit and each request must be fully documentated. X-ray is open Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm.
The Pathology Laboratory provides an Outpatient Phlebotomy Service at VIN. This service operates five days per week (Mon-Fri) and the staff will take blood from patients who are attending clinics at VIN. The service also supports the sample collection for patients on the Wards if difficulties are experienced. At present it also offers a walk in service to GP patients who live in the Northwwich area.

The Non-Clinical Services include the Administration Department, Catering Service, Hotel Services, Housekeeper, Portering Service and the Secretarial Staff. Their aim is to support the work of the Clinical Staff in providing an efficient and comprehensive service to the Patients, Carers, Visitors and Staff working throughout the Hospital. The Administration, Hotel Services, Portering and Catering are supported by the Non-Clinical Services Co-ordinator.
Integrated Care Services
In 1997 the Hospital also became an Integrated Care Centre when colleagues working for the local Primary Care Trust (PCT) were based within the Hospital. An introduction of Podiatry, Speech Therapy and Child Health Services, Voluntary Services such as Vision Support, Vale Royal Disability Service, Alcohol Counselling Service and Compass Counselling Service joined us at this time.
