In February 2011, the Department of Health published a letter reinforcing the requirement of the NHS Operating Framework 2011/2012 that all providers of NHS funded care must confirm their compliance with the delivery of same sex accommodation unless in the overall best interests of the patient or their personal choice).
This built on work taking place over the previous year where Trusts were required to declare compliance with the commitment to virtually eliminate mixed sex accommodation.
Trusts are also expected to make their declaration public and ensure this is available on their web sites, as we are doing here.
In addition, all Trusts have been required to develop a delivering same sex accommodation (DSSA) implementation plan. Read our DSSA Improvement Plan (Word document, opens in new window).
