This website is run by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) [2.1 or 2.2] AA standard. This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

  • Non-text content – Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
  • Audio description and captions – Written content within the YouTube video is inaccessible, no transcript or audio description is present. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) and 1.2.5 (Audio Description (Prerecorded).
  • PDFs - Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services or our discharging our legal duties. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and publish our Trust Board papers and Annual Reports in PDF format. Currently, PDF documents are not titled.
  • WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus: When hovering the mouse over the navigation menu drop downs, such as the menus below 'About Us' and 'Our Services', there is no mechanism available to dismiss the additional content without moving pointer hover - this is currently being rectified to ensure that the hover-able navigation dropdowns can be hovered, and then closed with the ESC key while they're open.

PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs do not meet accessibility standards. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. We do have plans to remove or replace some of the PDFs with more accessible content alternatives.

Some pages have links to PDFs from other website such as Public Health England that include patient flyers.

Videos

Some of our older videos do not meet accessibility standards because they do not have captions.

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to add text alternatives for all images. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus: When hovering the mouse over the navigation menu drop downs, such as the menus below 'About Us' and 'Our Services', there is no mechanism available to dismiss the additional content without moving pointer hover.

WCAG 1.4.5 Images of Text: Images of text are only allowable if the exact text from image is written nearby, as a conforming alternate version.

We plan to ensure all images have the exact text from the image written nearby.

WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled (PDF):The page title is missing within the settings of the document. We plan to amend this by ensuring documents are titled.
