Groundworks have begun at Leighton Hospital ahead of the installation of a new modular building to be located next to the entrance of the Outpatients Department.

As part of the work, a new cycle shelter will open on Wednesday 21 January near to The Post Graduate Centre, which is on the other side of the public car park from the existing blue cycle shelter.

The existing blue shelter near to the Outpatients Department entrance will be converted into a temporary bus stop, also opening on Wednesday 21 January.

Reminder: the main entrance to the Outpatients Department (OPD) and physiotherapy at Leighton Hospital is now closed.

Patients and visitors are advised to access OPD and physiotherapy via the hospital’s main entrance and follow signage along the yellow corridor. Patients and visitors who have difficulty with walking, should go to the hospital’s Main Entrance where they can request support getting to OPD.

The new modular building is scheduled to arrive in early March and will house Audiology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services, which are due to relocate to the new facility by late summer 2025.

The move is due to the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) planks within the OPD roof. Remediation work is necessary to keep the hospital safe due to the presence of the RAAC.
