Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is proud to welcome Consultant Ophthalmologist, Grant Guthrie.
Mr Guthrie will be joining the team at the new Cheshire & Merseyside Surgical Centre, which is due to open at the Victoria Infirmary in Northwich (VIN) later this spring.
Mr Guthrie has been practicing ophthalmology for over a decade, with a particular expertise in cataract surgery, having performed thousands of successful procedures.
He has trained at world-leading ophthalmic institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and Bristol Eye Hospital.
Mr Guthrie, who is a Fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, said: “Having recently moved to the region with my young family, I was delighted to learn that a new surgical centre would be opening. I applied to join as a surgeon because I wanted to contribute to its success and help establish it as a centre of ophthalmic excellence.
“A local surgical centre will bring first-class care closer to those who matter most, our patients. This new facility will allow us to reduce waiting lists and significantly improve the health of the local community.
“My passion lies in ensuring that my patients achieve the best possible surgical outcomes. My personal surgical results surpass national averages, with low complication rates and excellent visual outcomes.
“It is a privilege to have been appointed as a consultant at the new Cheshire & Merseyside Surgical Centre, and I look forward to welcoming our first patients.”
The surgical centre will feature two advanced operating theatres, one dedicated to cataract surgery and the other functioning as a multi-specialty theatre accommodating orthopaedics, ENT, dermatology, general surgery, and pain management. There will also be an ophthalmic treatment room, recovery area and consulting rooms.
The surgical centre will become a cataract centre of excellence, and a regional hub for outstanding cataract care. This will mean fewer people waiting for cataract surgery, as well as improved patient care.
Patients attending for cataract surgery will be treated by surgeons from both the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Patients will appear on a joint regional waiting list, which will be the first of its kind in Cheshire and Merseyside.
