NHS Charities Together made a dream come true for Phil and Yvonne Malam who were nominated for two of the exclusive NHS tickets to attend the Queen’s Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace last Saturday (3rd June).
“It was on our bucket list to go to London and I couldn’t believe it when we found out that we were!’ says Yvonne Malam, Phil’s wife. ‘We love the Queen and everything that she does for our country, and it was an absolute honour to go to her concert. It’s our 50th wedding anniversary in September and so to have the chance to go to the Big City in our special year was out of this world.”
Phil Malam was nominated by colleagues at Mid Cheshire NHS Trust to be presented with the golden tickets in recognition of his long service. Phil remembers the day the Queen opened Leighton Hospital in May 1972 – he had just started working as a porter. Now, 50 years on, Phil is Mid Cheshire’s longest serving employee.
Dennis Dunn MBE JP DL, Chairman of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It’s fantastic that we were able to thank Phil for his lifetime of commitment to Mid Cheshire NHS Trust in this way. Phil has been with us for as long as Leighton Hospital has been open, and it is fitting that he got to celebrate his 50 years at Leighton at the Queen’s special Jubilee celebration.”
Martin Foster, Director of Estates and Facilities, at Mid Cheshire said: “Congratulations Phil from all your colleagues at Mid Cheshire – we are proud to work with you.”
