Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust were delighted to recently welcome its 1,000th patient to its Discharge Lounge located at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
Joyce, pictured, became the Trust’s 1,000th patient to be transferred to the Discharge Lounge which opened in August this year.
The lounge is a designated area for patients that are waiting for their medications or transport when they are medically fit to leave the hospital to their planned discharge destination.
Jane Tordoff, Matron, said: “The lounge is staffed by nurses and HCA’s who work closely with ward staff, transport, social services and pharmacy to ensure patient’s safe discharge from the hospital.
“The purpose of the lounge is to provide patients with a comfortable, safe space to await the final stage of their discharge. The benefits of using the discharge lounge are that the dispensing of take-home medication and transport are prioritised to ensure that patients get home earlier in the day, reducing unnecessary delays and providing a much improved patient experience’’.
The Discharge Lounge is open Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm and is located on the ground floor blue corridor at Leighton Hospital.
Oliver Bennett, Chief Operating Officer, pictured with Joyce, said: “We know that it’s much better for our patient’s physical and mental wellbeing to leave hospital as soon as they are able to and that is why we’ve implemented a Discharge Lounge at Leighton Hospital to support our patients to get home sooner and to help improve hospital flow.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the teams involved in making the Discharge Lounge such a success."
