A new 1,090sq m modular building will be installed at Leighton Hospital in Crewe in May.
The building, which will be located at the front of the hospital’s Outpatients Department (OPD), is being installed due to the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) planks within the OPD roof.
For the Trust to undertake the necessary RAAC remediation work in the department, a number of services will be relocated to the modular unit.
To facilitate the installation, a crane will arrive at the hospital on the evening of Wednesday 7 May 2025.
Between then and Monday 12 May 2025, individual units will be lifted into place, with each module arriving separately on a low loader.
All the lifts will take place overnight, between around 9pm and 5am, to reduce the risk of disruption to staff, patients and visitors.
Once the unit is installed, work will begin to prepare the interior so that Audiology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services can relocate into the new facility by late summer 2025.
Once operational, the new facility will house three audiology testing booths, nine consulting rooms, an ENT treatment room, and an ENT minor operations room.
RAAC, a lightweight precast concrete material, was commonly used in UK public sector buildings between the 1950s and 1990s.
