Jonathan Nulty started his NHS career as a Pupil Nurse at Crewe and District Memorial Hospital before moving to Leighton Hospital, just in time to meet The Queen!
By coincidence, Jonathan was on duty on May 5th, 1972, when her Majesty was taken on a tour of Leighton and the new residences. He was in Ward 9 when The Queen walked through the door. He recalled: “At first, she spoke to the patient and asked him how he was, then she turned to me and wanted to know how my training was going. I said, ‘very well thank you Ma’am’!”
“I can only describe it as a gobsmacking day, and it was certainly one of the highlights of my career. Every time I see the photo, I look back at a moment I will never forget.”
Jonathan’s father, Geoffrey, was at Leighton on that historic day too, working as a reporter for the Crewe and Nantwich Chronicle.
Jonathan, who’s now 69, went on to have an incredible 48-year nursing career and was the longest serving member of staff at Mid Cheshire when he retired in 2018.
Along the way, he also celebrated receiving the Chairman’s Award from Dennis Dunn in 2014, in recognition of his dedication and commitment to patient care.
