Local people are being invited to share their memories of the historic Verdin Ward, part of the Victoria Infirmary in Northwich (VIN).
Work is currently being undertaken at the VIN to create the new Cheshire & Merseyside Surgical Centre, which is due to open in spring 2025.
As part of this development, the Verdin Ward is being refurbished to bring the building up to current standards and to preserve its historic importance.
The Verdin Ward takes its name from local businessman and philanthropist, Robert Verdin, who in 1886, donated the house to the town for use as a hospital.
Gemma Morgan-Lees, general manager of the Victoria Infirmary, said: “The Verdin Ward has been an important and recognisable part of this community for almost 140 years.
“The refurbishment work provides an ideal opportunity for us to commemorate the history of the Verdin Ward for current and future generations.
“We would love to hear from our local communities about their experiences of the Verdin Ward. We hope people can share any photographs and memories they have.
“Our aim is to create an exhibition that will go on public display later this year.”

The Victoria Infirmary provides a range of services to the local community, including a minor injuries unit, therapy services, and outpatients clinics. In 2022, a community diagnostic centre opened at the site providing diagnostic testing seven days a week.
The centre will provide state-of-the-art clinical areas to support patient care. These include two theatres covering ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pain, ENT, dermatology, and general surgery. There will also be a recovery area and consulting rooms.
