Mr Murray Luckas, Mid Cheshire’s highly respected Medical Director, retired today after more than 20 years with the Trust.
Murray started his career at Leighton Hospital in 2001 as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Over the last two decades, he has undertaken many critical leadership roles such as the Clinical Lead for Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Divisional Clinical Director for Women & Children's, Deputy Medical Director, and then for the last three years, in the permanent role of Executive Medical Director.
Dennis Dunn MBE JP DL, Chairman of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, paid tribute to Murray’s huge contribution: “Murray has provided outstanding clinical leadership throughout the most challenging period of anybody’s NHS career and led us through the Covid pandemic with a constant focus on the safety of our patients and caring for our staff. We wish him a healthy and rewarding next chapter in his life.”
Russ Favager, Interim Chief Executive, added: “Murray has a well-deserved reputation for excellence not just here at Mid Cheshire but among so many colleagues across the NHS. His impeccable professionalism and judgment have made a vital contribution to delivering the highest possible standards of care, of which the Trust is rightly proud.”
Murray Luckas reflected on his time at Mid Cheshire: “It’s been a real honour to work for the Trust over such a long period of time and I am immensely proud to have served as Medical Director. Quite frankly, I love the place – the culture of the organisation comes from the staff and that’s what makes Mid Cheshire so special. I know the core beliefs here will never change.”
In April, Dr Clare Hammell was appointed as Murray’s successor, having previously been promoted to Deputy Medical Director in April 2019.
