Macmillan Colorectal Enhanced Recovery Dietitian

Bio

I am a specialist Dietitian within the colorectal surgery team focusing on ensuring that all patients are nutritionally prepared for surgery and associated treatments. All oncology colorectal patients on the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) pathway are referred to me as the dedicated Dietitian. I aim to provide nutrition support for all patients throughout their journey from prehab to rehab. I am passionate about equipping patients for surgery, ensuring that they are in their best nutritional state to improve outcomes, and facilitate earlier recovery and discharge from hospital.

Prehab nutrition support is provided by means of a "virtual clinic" where I contact the patient at home to provide advice. Face to face dietetic support is provided  on the ward post surgery with the aim to facilitate early return of nutritional intake. I can help address weight loss; appetite and taste changes; side effects to different surgical  procedures; and various side effects associated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy that can effect eating and drinking. I focus on reassuring patients and supporting them through any required dietary change.

Rehab nutrition support is also provided by means of a "virtual clinic" with the option to refer to other specialist community dietetic services if more long term support with eating and drinking is required.
