This page contains information for patients who have been referred to Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for YAG capsulotomy on the Fast Track YAG pathway.
Sometimes after cataract surgery there can be some clouding on the fine membrane behind the lens which was put in the eye at the time of surgery. This means that light is less able to travel clearly through to the retina at the back of your eye. As a result, your sight can become blurred and cloudy, or you may have problems with bright lights and glare. The vision may feel like the cataract has returned. This is called posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and occurs in around 10 to 20 % of patients after cataract surgery.
PCO can be treated with a laser procedure called a YAG capsulotomy. Please watch and listen to the video below for more information on the condition, procedure and pathway from Consultant Ophthalmologist and Cataract Lead, Mr John Awad.
If you have been referred to this pathway by your optometrist and have not yet received your pack, please contact the Cataract Navigator, Owen Chesters on 01260 612398.
