Local General Practices

Swanlow Medical Centre

Swanlow is a 10,000 patient practice in Winsford in Cheshire.  We currently have 2 trainers, Dr Susan Kemsley and Dr Clare Oxley.  We have 4 GP Partners, 1 Practice Manager Partner and 3 Salaried GP’s.  We also employ an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who undertakes our daily home visits and an acute clinic in the afternoon, 3 Practice Nurses and 1 HCA.  We have excellent back office and front of house staff who provide a friendly working environment.  


Earnswood Medical Centre

Earnswood Medical Centre is a well-established and friendly primary healthcare team in the middle of Crewe. It has been a training practice for most of the last 30 years (with Dr Raeburn initially, then Dr Khanna and Dr Spencer) - with four of the GPs in the team being ex Earnswood trainees, we must be doing something right! The sofas and coffee in the doctor's meeting room are legendary, and are the heart of the practice where the day to day business, refreshments and 'team support' happen.

Wrenbury Medical Centre

Wrenbury is a small rural practice sitting in the heart of Wrenbury village just outside of Nantwich in Cheshire.  We are a dispensing practice with 2 GP Partners, one salaried GP, two Practice Nurses and a Healthcare Assistant, Dr Namrata Saggar is our GP Trainer.  We currently have approximately 3,700 patients registered at the practice.  Our administration team are excellent and always keen to support trainees during their time with us,  we have received excellent feedback from our trainees with requests to return to the practice.  


Watling Medical Practice

Watling Medical Practice is a friendly 7 doctor Practice in Northwich. We have a list size of approximately 7,500 patients with differing health needs. Feedback received from medical students placed with the Practice has resulted in the Practice achieving gold silver and bronze awards, which we are very proud of. Mentorship of Registrars is GP-led, thorough and flexible. GP Registrars will benefit from experiencing the rewards and challenges faced in Primary Care. 

GP Registrars are made to feel very welcome and included as part of the team from induction with the Practice Manager, into mentorship from our experienced clinical team.

The Practice also holds some Secondary Care outpatient clinics in Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery, which may be of use to GP-Registrars placed with the practice.


Ashfields Primary Care Centre

Ashfields is the only GP surgery in the market town of Sandbach, directly off junction 17 of the M6 with a population of approximately 24,000 people. We are approximately a 20 minute drive from Leighton Hospital.

There are 18 GPs (partners and salaried) with 2 GP trainees at any one time. We also have medical students from Manchester at certain times of the year. The practice hosts evening educational meetings and attracts speakers from a host of differing specialities.

We host a number of outside consultant led clinics which include ophthalmology, psychiatry, memory services, dermatology, orthopaedic lower and upper limb, general surgery and gynaecology. We have a minor operating suite and have a regular vasectomy list.

We are located across the road from the town centre, opposite Mcdonalds and Aldi.


Grosvenor Medical Centre

Grosvenor Medical Centre has been a training practice for over 20 years and is currently involved in programmes of training for Doctors, Medical students, Nurses, Physician Associates and Health Care Assistants.

GP Registrars- We currently have 1 trainer, Dr Cooper, and a second doctor, Dr Skinner, applying to become a trainer. We have achieved a consistently high level of satisfaction from our GP registrar’s trainees.

Medical students – Led by Dr Victor and Dr Skinner, the practice offers placements 2 days a week with intakes from Manchester university. They follow a varied timetable to experience all aspects of primary care

Nursing students – Grosvenor is the enhanced training practice for South Cheshire and Vale Royal nursing students. The practice operates a rolling programme of student nurses form local university providers and is responsible for the placements of students in spoke practices.

Physician Associates- Grosvenor is supporting students from Liverpool University undertaking this 2 year post graduate degree.

HealthCare Support Workers- The practice supports the completion of the healthcare certificate for new HCSW and has also supported a HCSW through the assistant practitioner foundation degree programme.

The multi-disciplinary team- including pharmacist, nursing and community staff e.g. health visitors and the community paramedic and actively involved in the training programmes offering a wide experience of primary care through all the stages of life. 


Audlem Medical Practice

Audlem Medical Practice is a small rural practice based in the village of Audlem, in the very south of Cheshire.The Practice covers Audlem, Woore, Adderley, Burleydam, to the borders of Nantwich town and other surrounding areas, nearly 80 rural square miles, with a patient population of 4650, this figure is steadily growing.


The Practice team is cohesive and supportive. We have 3 Part-time GP Partners, and 1 salaried GP, 1 General Practice Registrar and an integrated practice nurse team. The nurse team includes 2 part time Nurses Practitioners and we have support from the CCG and local hospital for our phlebotomy. Our administrative staff consists of 1 Practice Manager, 1 Assistant Practice Manager, 2 secretaries and 7 receptionists all of whom are part time. We are a small, stable team and our staff members often remain at the practice for many years.


Our partners are all part-time but work closely together to provide a high quality service with excellent continuity of care for our patients. 2 of our partners are also employed by the University of Liverpool on a part time basis, one is a community clinical teacher and the other is Year 3 lead, both provide teaching and training for undergraduate medical students.  The practice provides teaching blocks for undergraduates from Keele University, supervised by all the partners and we have very high quality feedback from them.

One of our partners is a trainer for GP registrars, however all the Doctors are involved and committed to training and participate in giving tutorials. We have excellent feedback from registrars who find that this approach offers varied styles of teaching and training.
