Your UK Colleagues and Patients

It maybe useful to bear in mind the following broad points about British people but as with any generalisation or stereotyping you will come across exceptions.

  • Your colleagues and patients will, on the whole, respect the freedom of others to hold different opinions and beliefs.

  • Your colleagues and patients will feel free to express their own opinions; don't expect people to agree with you all of the time.

  • Less senior colleagues will expect you to treat them in the same way as you treat your peer group.

  • More senior colleagues will not expect you to be deferential, just professional.

  • When not at work people feel free to wear what they want.

  • British people are known for having a strong sense of humour but it can be difficult to know when they are joking.
