There are 3 things to do if you lose your BRP.
Step 1.
Report the loss or theft of your BRP card to the Home Office
You must report the loss or theft of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card to the Home Office (UKVI). You should do this online using this form.
You will need to provide:
- Your personal details including your full name, date of birth, and nationality
- Your postal address or your e-mail address
- The reference number of the BRP that has been lost or stolen
- When and where your BRP was lost or stolen
Step 2:
Report the loss or theft of your BRP card to the Police
You should now report the loss or theft of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card to the Police. You should obtain a Police reference if your BRP card is lost or a Crime Reference Number (CRN) if it has been stolen. You can report this in one of two ways:
- 1. Call your local Police force by dialling 101 from within the UK. If you have difficulty in contacting the Police using the 101 (non-emergency number), you can find a full list of Police forces and their contact details here.
- 2. Visit your local Police station in Crewe and report the loss or theft of your BRP card to the Police in person.
Step 3
Apply for a replacement BRP card
Now you have reported the loss or theft of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)card to the Home Office and the Police you need to apply for a replacement BRP card within three months otherwise you could be issued with a civil penalty. In order to obtain a replacement BRP card, you must apply online. You can read the information on the UKVI website.
When you pay for your application online you will need to upload your documents to UKVI’s system and book an appointment at a UKVCAS (UK Visas and Citizenship Application Services) centre to enrol your biometrics.
You will have to pay a fee for your replacement BRP card.
It can take 8 weeks for your replacement BRP card application to be processed through the standard service. During that time, it is vital that you do not allow your visa to expire – this remains your responsibility. If your visa is going to expire whilst you’re waiting for your replacement card then you should make a new visa application and include a covering letter to explain why you cannot provide your Passport/BRP within your application.
YOU SHOULD NOT BOOK ANY TRAVEL UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR NEW BRP CARD. Doing so is entirely at your own risk. We strongly recommend waiting until you have received your replacement BRP card safely. If you leave the UK while your replacement BRP card application is pending your application will be withdrawn automatically when you leave the UK.
